I’m sure you’ve noticed that God doesn’t always answer your prayers the way you want! Habakkuk had a difficult time dealing with this. He was supposed to be the ambassador for Israel but wasn’t properly doing his job. He wanted to make things happen on his on term’s rather than on God’s terms. Your plans and God’s plans are rarely the same.
While you know to pray, “Your will be done” does it still jolt your spirit when you discover God has something different in mind than you do? He sometimes allows difficult (scary) things to unfold (just as you read about in the Book of Habakkuk). Habakkuk wanted to see revival among the people of Judah. When God said no, he thought God was just ignoring Judah’s sin. He also never thought God would use Babylon to judge Judah.
So, what do you see here? You see God allowing Babylon to attack Judah rather than bringing revival to its people. This seems so harsh, but keep in mind that God has a way of drawling people back to Himself. Do you remember me saying that sometimes things have to get worse before they can get better? The Book of Habakkuk is the perfect example.
Why is there anarchy in the world right now? Proverbs 28:18 says, “Walk straight—live well and be saved; a devious life is a doomed life” (MSG). As you can see, the people of Judah were not walking with God and doomed themselves. There are countless people today who are doing the same thing—thus the anarchy. You have to share vision with God or you’ll start to lose hope and give up. Today, focus on how you (on a deep, personal level) need to reestablish your relationship with Go.
