Let’s talk about some issues that could be affecting you right now, issues that were going on in Jerusalem during Habakkuk’s time! They were dealing with wicked people, unanswered prayer, and lawlessness.
Are you struggling with unanswered prayers? Habakkuk starts out with the simple circumstantial evidence (based on not seeing the exact answer he requested) that God did not hear or even acknowledge his prayer. Unfortunately, he was demanding things from God rather than requesting them. Instead of asking God to do something for you, ask God to reveal something in you. God’s timing is different than yours, so don’t be discouraged if things aren’t happening as quickly as you’d like or happening the way you’d like.
Uncontrolled perversity was running rampant, unchecked, and uncontrolled in Habakkuk’s day. When lawlessness prevails, no one is safe. George Floyd certainly wasn’t safe, and now there are millions who aren’t safe. If there’s ANYTHING in your life that shouldn’t be there, get right with God. The people around you need a good example right now.
Wherever you’re at right now, be on the lookout for unexpected answers from God. Sometimes we think He’s going to do one thing, but He does another! Habakkuk might have thought that God was going to send a mighty, spiritual awakening to Judah, but God said he was raising up the Babylonians to sweep across the earth (Habakkuk 1:6). While this may have sounded devastating, sometimes things have to get worse before they can get better. Don’t allow the evil in this world to seep into your personal life or let you doubt who God really is. Trust His timing, even when it comes to the COVID-19 situation and the ripple effect it has had on our word. Read through the Book of Habakkuk this week to better understand what he saw and went through and how to apply the lessons learned to your own life.
