This Sunday kicked off our new series Tuned In. God has a frequency that you need to tune into! John 10:3-5 says, “The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice” (NIV). Do you find yourself listening to God’s voice? Are you tuned in? When you learn God’s voice—and learn to listen to it—He leads you to safety.
God doesn’t have a speaking problem. We have a listening problem! If you’re convinced God never speaks to you, then you haven’t been setting aside time to work on your relationship. God speaks to you though the Bible, through your prayer, and through words of wisdom by those around you. “Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track” (Proverbs 3:6, MSG). Some people claim they still can’t hear God, even when perusing a relationship with Him. What’s the solution in situations like this? You have to prepare to hear.
Luke 8:8 says, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” If you don’t hear God speaking to you through the Word, do some research on what you’re reading or get someone to help explain things. If you pray and pray and pray and don’t hear God answer in return, spend time meditating and just listening for Him to speak to your heart. And one of the best ways to hear from God is through worship! This isn’t just for Sundays—you can worship God wherever you are.
Even though it can be challenging at times, staying tuned into God and His voice should be a huge part of your life. We are nothing without God, and He wants to be in relationship with all of us. Set aside some time today to focus on God. He’s not just someone you hang out with when and if you have time. He should come first. And when He does, every other part of your life will be blessed by it!
