Let’s continue Tuesday’s examination of the heart and talk about heart reinforcement! The heart is a muscle, and in order to strengthen it, you have to work it out through cardio. In the same way, you have to work on strengthening your spiritual heart!
Cross-Fit– “Then Jesus said to all of them, ‘If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily to follow Me’” (Matthew 16:24, BSB). This taking up the cross daily is like lifting the weight of the cross (like free weights) and getting fit spiritually. And the moment you receive salvation, you’re cleared to serve! Far too many people are trying to get out of serving when they should be looking for opportunities to serve! I love that our church is connected with other churches around the globe. This Saturday, July 11thwe’re participating in and helping host Serve Day! If you’re looking for a way to serve God and your community, check out http://thesummit.online/serveday/.
Okay, let’s take a look at heart surgery. With enough blockage, surgery is sometimes the only alternative. Not a “bypass” (we can’t bypass sin or responsibility), but a total removal of the blockage (sin). Hebrew 12:1 says you’re to cast aside sin. You don’t just bypass, hide, or allocate it—get rid of it! Don’t underestimate the seriousness of sin. Yes, God forgives those who ask, but you’re still called to turn from sin and honor Him with your heart.
One final thing before I sign off here. I want you to understand that when you give God your heart, you have to give him your whole heart! Don’t think of this as a burden but a joy, something that brings you hope! Romans 15:4-5 says, “For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope. May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had…” (NIV). Today, walk in joy and hope!
