If you watched our worship experience online this past Sunday, you may recall my wife Michelle sharing about a stressful time in her life. One of our children was going through something that had her up in the middle of the night, every night. How do you think she found peace during this time? She cast her cares on God and devoted herself to prayer regarding our child. What’s keeping you up at night right now? For many people, the worldwide effects of COVID-19 are a constant source of stress.
God has never promised a life with no storms, but He HAS promised to be there when we face them. Think about the testimony of Jehoshaphat. He ascended the throne when he was thirty-five and reigned for twenty-five years. Then, according to 2 Chronicles, the Moabites formed a confederacy with the surrounding nations and marched against him. This was a military version of a perfect storm. The Jews could handle one army. But when one army allied with another and those two combined with a third? It was more than a king could handle.
Jehoshaphat responded by praying and fasting (2 Chronicles 20:3). He then marched into battle with singers worshiping in front. His enemies fled, and the battle was over before they reached the battlefield! Learn a lesson from the Lord, and lead with worship. Gather with His people (virtually for now), set your face toward Him, and fast. If you didn’t get to join The Summit in praying and fasting on Monday, find time this week to devote yourself to this! Combat the effects of COVID-19 by praying and fasting. When you fast, cry out for help, and admit your weaknesses. Once God moves, you move too!
If you feel disconnected, GET connected. We are here for you through our online experiences, and we’d love to see you there! There’s always an opportunity to chat with others and submit prayer requests. Don’t do this battle alone but with a church family, and surround yourself with His presence!
