Did you know that God can bring good out of this mess going on around you right now? Take a look at Romans 8:28! As I’ve said before, fear is an even greater epidemic that the epidemic caused by COVID-19. There are countless things you can fear, and this situation the world is in right now may be intensifying your fears.
There have been fearful situations in my life where I’ve looked for situational relief more than spiritual relief. Guess what God wants? You got it—spiritual relief! You can find peace in Him regardless of circumstances. It’s easy to just wish a situation could change—sometimes this has to do with control. Stop going after control. The only certainty you have by yourself is uncertainty! Healthy eaters can still get sick. People who are responsible with finances can still face financial difficulty. The list goes on. None of this is to say you shouldn’t work on your life and try to better yourself. I’m talking about how you need to spiritually give your life over to God with the understanding that peace comes from Him, and control belongs to Him.
I remember my kids being afraid when they were little. Did you ever think there was a monster hiding under your bed or in your closet? This would have brought fear and the need to know that someone was there for you! As a father, I had to help my children realize there was no monster, that they didn’t need to be afraid, and that I was there for them! After leaving their rooms, I’d hear laughing and giggling. They went from fear, to faith, to fun. Real or imagined, whatever you’re afraid of right now is never too much for God to handle.
Philippians 4:4 to rejoice in the Lord always. Rather than seeking total control, relinquish it to God. Peace is within your reach, and you’re not going to find it in money, possessions, or anything of this world. Even with this virus that seems to be altering the lives of everyone around the globe, you have reason to rejoice. God’s plan and purpose for you has not changed, and you still have the privilege of furthering the Gospel (Philippians 1:12-13). If you feel limited because of working from home and having to practice social distancing, jump online and see how you can be a light to others. Stay connected, encourage people, be a part of outreaches, and remember that God wants to see you go from fear to faith!
