I hope you’ve spent the last couple of days focusing on God! As promised, I’m going to walk you through three ways that we are not like this world—things that will help you fear not. Firstly, you need to remember that we live by faith, not by fear. When Jesus was comforting his disciples, He said,
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me” (John 14:1, NIV).
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” (John 14:27, NIV).
The Lord provides peace that goes beyond human understanding. God isn’t sitting in heaven thinking, “I didn’t see it coming.” He is faithful, in control, and good! He has a plan for our lives and will never leave us or forsake us. Paul tells us in 2 Timothy 1:7—“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline” (NLT). If you feel fear, know that it’s not from God but the enemy.
The second way we are not like this would is that we are sacrificial, not selfish. “Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too” (Philippians 2:3-4, NLT). I encourage you to find ways to help those in need, something those here at The Summit are working on right this very minute! Have an Acts 2:44-46 attitude. “All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts…” (NIV). Notice that they continued to meet every day, and not just when they felt that things were perfect. While we can’t meet in person on Sundays, I encourage you to join us online and to stay connected! www.summitchurchlive.co/
Finally, we are different from the world in that we shine the light; we don’t hide it.
Jesus says we are the light of the world (Matthew 5:14-16). Here’s what I’m believing during this season of uncertainty: I believe the love and hope of Jesus spreads faster than any virus.
We live by faith, not by fear.
We are sacrificial, not selfish.
We shine the light; we do not hide it!
