While we wrapped up our series on discipleship this past weekend, discipleship remains our theme for the year! I want those at The Summit to live out the Great Commission found in Matthew 28:18-20 and make disciples of all nations! Don’t you want to live your life with an eternal mindset? “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end” (Ecclesiastes 3:11, NIV).
Do you ever try to tune out what’s going on around you in this world? I think everyone does this at some point. But does imagining that someone or something isn’t there make it so? Imagine there’s no sickness, war, no people far from God, and no need to share Christ. Some people think this way and see no need for serving God or reaching people for Christ. People die and enter eternity without God every day. Don’t ignore reality.
What does the Bible say about discipleship again? Does it say, “stay” or “sit” in order to make disciples? No, it says GO! You have to put the things of this world aside and walk in obedience. If you’ve accepted Christ as your Savior, you’ve already agreed to obedience, but that’s not the same thing as walking in it. If you’re trying to decide the best time invest in discipleship, the time is now—you’re not going to gain boldness sitting there. Help the people in your life learn about the truth, grow closer to God, and gain an eternal mindset.
There are six questions I want you to ask yourself regarding how the Great Commission applies to you: Who? What? When? Where? How? Why? I’m going to help you work through these questions this week. Sometimes all you need is encouragement and reminders about who you are and what God created you for! Again, you have to have an eternal mindset instead of just thinking about the here and now.
