This past weekend was a good reminder that everyone, no matter who they are or what they do for a living, are on their own spiritual journeys. We got to hear NFL players share their stories of faith as a part of Football Sunday 2020. One of the most important points made was that you have to make sure you’re a Christian first. For NFL players who are believers, they need to focus on being Christians first, then being NFL players.
Some people feel alone, even when they’re surrounded by others. Our host spoke about being a team and playing shoulder to shoulder. This concept is a must where your spiritual life is concerned. Why would you try to fight your way through life alone when you could have God and other believers surrounding you? It can be hard to trust others—we live in a fallen world, and people do let you down sometimes. This is where grace comes into play!
Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (NIV). God’s love for you is unconditional, and He wants you to know He’s there for you. When you feel discouraged, remember to never give up (Galatians 6:9)! If you got a chance to tune into Football Sunday 2020, you heard the heart-wrenching stories the players shared—stories of loss and disappointment. But the best part of hearing their testimonies was learning that they stood shoulder to shoulder with God and their families in order to be overcomers.
Do you like where you’re at in life, or do you feel as if life is one big disappointment? Are you thankful for what you have, or are you focused on what you don’t have? Remember that EVERYONE faces challenges, but at the same time, everyone has a purpose and is loved by God. While things don’t always happen when, where, and how you’d like, you can find supernatural joy through Christ. Learning to see the beauty in each and every day is crucial. Be on God’s team so that you have someone to stand shoulder to shoulder with!
