Earlier this week, I briefly mentioned ways you can fill the gap—that time between evening and morning. I talked about sleep, but how important is it to you? People used to sleep an average of 10 hours every night. But now a days, we have so many things keeping us awake. Aside from Thomas Edison’s invention of the lightbulb resulting in easier late nights, there are phones and other devices bombarding you. Where people used to eat, talk by the fire, then go to bed, people now stay up due to work or entertainment. The mind never rests. Go to sleep!
Besides getting sleep, you need to go deep. Deep in what way? Spiritually, physically, and creatively. Going deep spiritually is, of course, the most important. This goes back to building a firm foundation. What about going deep physically? When you work out physically, or do some sort of physical activity, it positively effects your mood and your focus. Sometimes, people turn to drugs to do what they could actually bring about in their own lives. This is the most over-medicated generation that has ever lived. And to think that by exercising, you’re participating in a natural mood-altering, focus-enhancing activity.
You also want to go deep in your creative endeavors. Why should you focus on creativity? You were created by God—in His image. Think of the wonderful, beautiful things He created. He has given you gifts and talents. You can use these gifts and talents, not just as a way to enjoy life, but as a way to bring Him glory and honor. Ways you can peruse creative endeavors include joining a small group, going media dark, reading the Bible, etc. Fill your time with God, and He will bring creativity back into your life.
If you need to anchor your life in Christ, use 2020 to help you do that. As I said, you need to really press into God and connect with others who follow Christ. What’s your next step? It could be to go on a mission trip and make this your year of discipleship. Taking your next step, whatever that may be, could be the answer to figuring out where you want to be in five years! Give this year, this life, to God. He’ll help you figure out the details as you go.
