We call ourselves Christians but don’t want to be in it for the long run. Unfortunately, some of us spend too much of our lives waiting for the next thing to come along. First you learn to walk, then run. You start growing up and make it to middle school, then high school, then college! Fresh seasons of life can be wonderful, but you have to live your life RIGHT NOW. Remember that salvation is all Jesus and is a part of your life RIGHT NOW.
In your Christian life, you are born again (John 3). Next, you are baptized to start your new life and profess your faith publically. You then go through Sanctification, the process of becoming more like Jesus Christ. Still, many are left doubting their salvation or maybe their progress toward the destination of becoming more like Him.
It’s not always a spiritually healthy thing to be asking yourself “Are we there yet?” Do you feel like you’re always suffering and trying to rush through life? It’s hard not to be in a hurry, waiting on the edge of your seat! You may even be convinced that, spiritually, you should live your life anxiously. God doesn’t want you to live this way. In order to figure out if you’re IN or OUT when it comes to God, pay attention to destination impatience. 1 John 5:13 says, “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life” (NIV). It’s good to be excited about being more and more like Christ, but don’t be in a hurry to rush through life.
What can help you with your destination impatience? First, acknowledge that you need a guide! And not just any guide but a uniquely qualified one. “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the Life—no one comes to the Father except through Me’” (John 14:6, NIV). Don’t try to find answers in yourself but in Christ. Let Him be your guide; let Him be your leader!
