I was proud to have my son Nathan preach this past weekend at The Summit. He took the church deeper into the U in 5 series, helping people pause and examine where they’re at vs. where they could be! As he said, everyone is on a path, and we’re all going to end up somewhere. Remember to keep asking yourself where you want to be. It helps to visualize your life in the future. Nathan took it so far as to have us all draw where we want to be in five years! Do you want a family, friends, an education, a career, a home?
When looking ahead to the future, it helps to ask yourself the following questions: 1) What kind of character do I want to have, 2) what location do I want to be in, 3) who do I want with me, and 4) what do I want my accomplishments to be? Let’s unpack some of this. If you struggle with character right now, you need to start working on yourself—to the point of being dead to self! Walk in the Fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).
When thinking about location, this should have more to do with your calling than personal preference! If God has called you to minister in a certain area, be open to living somewhere else. Who is with you should also have more to do with God than your personal preference. Would you rather be alone, weeding through life by yourself, or surrounded by family and friends who support your vision? Not everyone’s personal life looks the same, and that’s okay. But remember to take care of your family and to make a point of reaching people.
And finally, regarding your accomplishments, I think you already know what I’m going to say! Location should have more to do with God than personal preference. You’re called by God and have purpose. Are you on the path you need to be on to get there? Are you reading your Bible and spending time in prayer? If you’re not on the right path, make it a CRISIS and TAKE ACTION. God wants to help you be ALL IN.
