Some people spend Christmas tearing wrapping paper but never get to Jesus. While there were numerous things surrounding Jesus’ birth that seemed ordinary, there were numerous signs that prove it to be extraordinary! Make room for Jesus! When you feel lost, remember that God gives you signs today, just as He gave the world signs regarding the birth of His son.
One sign you surely recognize is the presidential sign! At any point in history, the president has been surrounded by things like the White House, ceremonies, and security. And what sign did God choose to signify His coming to earth? He chose a baby wrapped in strips of cloth lying in a manger. Ordinary signs can cause so many people to miss the divine, though. Miraculous signs don’t work with hard hearts and often bring out the “me first” folks. And sign dependency is a symptom of a wrong heart.
Another sign is the humanity sign. God sent a baby (not uncommon, right?). The God of the universe was sent to be “one of us.” Jesus came and experienced the hardships of life, and He came for everyone, not just a select group. Through the helplessness sign, you can see that Jesus was wrapped like every other baby—in swaddling clothes! And Jesus was a part of the humility sign. He was placed in a feeding trough after his birth; that’s pretty humble! There’s one final sign I want to bring to light here—the pink elephant sign. Some people say Jesus (the pink elephant) is there, while others say He isn’t. At this point, people decide to leave the subject alone! This leads to ignoring or forgetting about Jesus during the Christmas season.
What I want you to get out of all of this is that God knows you. He sent what the world needed, which was Jesus. If the world had needed something else, like money, He would have sent that instead! You have been given the greatest gift in the world. Do you know what Jesus wants for His birthday? For you to invite others to join you at church so that they can meet Him!
