I left off yesterday by reminding you that God always does the right thing, even if it seems absurd! God’s character doesn’t change or break down. Some people get nervous about how they look when following God. They’re worried they’ll look absurd! It’s a good thing that God always does the right thing, even if we question Him. Even Jesus questioned His Father: “Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, ‘My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will’” (Matthew 26:39). I can only imagine that Abraham questioned God on his journey toward trust.
“By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had embraced the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, even though God had said to him, ‘It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.’ Abraham reasoned that God could even raise the dead, and so in a manner of speaking he did receive Isaac back from death” (Hebrews 11:17-19). This was Abraham’s test of faith! Did he trust God, even though he didn’t understand? In the end, he did trust God and raised his hand to sacrifice Isaac. If you KNOW God, you TRUST Him (Psalms 9:10). Isaac’s life was spared when God sent an angel to stop Abraham from ending Isaac’s life.
You don’t have to be perfect for God to work in your life! When you walk with God, your character become more like His character. “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another” (John 13:35). Love is just one of God’s characteristics that you can show to others. And if you really understand love, you’ll love God more than anyone or anything.
“Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring-not only to those who are of the law but also to those who have the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all” (Romans 4:16). God’s blessings are never earned! Abraham made many poor decisions before becoming a giant of faith when asked to sacrifice his son. God kept his promises, despite Abraham’s mistakes. Put your trust in God and not in what you hear or see going on around you.
