It’s easy to get distracted by things in the natural world. It doesn’t even have to be something that starts out as sin; it can be something good that becomes an idol. To avoid this, give your best in the natural, and God will work in the supernatural! The world will try to dissuade you from serving God. Have you ever heard someone in ministry say, “That’s not really my thing”? Sometimes you have to get outside your comfort zone and be open to new things.
That is exactly what Elisha did when he walked away from his wealth and began preparing for his ministry. He went outside of his comfort zone (his wealthy lifestyle). When you walk through this life as a follower of Christ, you have to take up your cross DAILY. Your relationship with God requires constant attention. Spending time talking to Him and reading His Word are crucial to building and maintaining a healthy life. If you want to spiritually survive this world, you have to be intentional about working on your relationship with God. Make your life about what you can do for God, not what He can do for you. Elisha wanted this! “When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, ‘Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?’ ‘Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit,’ Elisha replied. ‘You have asked a difficult thing,’ Elijah said, ‘yet if you see me when I am taken from you, it will be yours—otherwise, it will not’” (2 Kings 2:9-10). Elisha was basically asking for a willing spirit!
Elisha provides encouragement to help you through life. 2 Kings 3:15: “‘But now bring me a harpist.’ While the harpist was playing, the hand of the LORD came upon Elisha.” Worship! Remember to worship God on a daily basis, not just at church on Sunday. Make worship as much a part of your daily walk with God as prayer and reading the Bible. Another piece of advice from Elisha that I want you to remember is that, at some point, you have to wake and do something (2 Kings 3:16)! Life isn’t always fun, but life isn’t about you! Finally, Elisha reminds you that you shouldn’t base your life on the seen but on the unseen (2 Kings 3:17-18). God is working in ways you can’t see or understand in the moment, and you have to trust Him. All of this will help you live a supernatural life in a natural world!
