Do you live for God or for yourself? Galatians 5:19-21 is a warning and paints a picture of what life looks like when you live for yourself. If the idea of “a stinking accumulation of mental and emotional garbage” doesn’t alarm you, nothing will. Don’t let things accumulate to the point that you can’t see clearly, discern right from wrong, or walk in God’s will.
Is being offended a part of your way or God’s way? The Bible says in Galatians 5:22-23 that living God’s way results in fruit, such as “Affection for others.” How can you be affectionate toward others when you’re offended by them? Can you effectively share the love of Christ with someone when you’re clearly put-off?
To live God’s way, you need to reroute yourself. If—at work or other settings—you find yourself offended, confess that to God. Ask Him to reveal truth to you and to show you how to love. Being unoffendable is not about looking the other way when something is wrong; you should call people out for certain things. I’m talking about the personal offense that is easy to get trapped in. The more offended you are, the more you start to think that everything is about you and how you want things to be.
2 Corinthians 6:1-2 says, “As God’s partners, we beg you not to accept this marvelous gift of God’s kindness and then ignore it. For God says, ‘At just the right time, I heard you. On the day of salvation, I helped you.’ Indeed, the ‘right time’ is now. Today is the day of salvation.” In the same way that God shows you kindness, you should show kindness to others. Your life should be an example of Christ-like living, something that reveals the love of God to those around you.
