In order to stay unoffendable, you must stay obedient to the Master! “If you love me, keep my commands” (John 14:15). God commands us to be loving toward others. It’s not about letting people walk all over you; it’s about being Christ-like in the sense that you care about God and others more than yourself.
Rather than putting your needs and wants first, you have to think about what really matters! It might not always seem like that big of a deal to become offended. But can’t this lead to anger and unforgiveness? Unforgiveness isn’t to be taken lightly; it has consequences, as seen in Matthew 6:15: “But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.” Now do you understand the seriousness of choosing to be unoffendable?
What are you supposed to do when you’re struggling to stay unoffended but are genuinely hurt by others? Remember that you’re not alone! Comfort is the primary purpose of the Holy Spirit! “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;” (John 14:16) There’s no situation where you’re going to be completely alone.
This evening, reflect on anything you might be offended about. Give it to God, and ask Him to show you how to control your feelings. Being unoffendable can truly change your life. If you’ve never considered offense just that, an offense (against God), change your thinking! The less offense you take, the more likely you are to reach people for Christ.
