When you think about becoming new, what comes to mind? There are many different ways a person can change, but what makes a person new? Let’s look at different kinds of change before answering this question. There can be outward change, which is what man tries to do. This can be trying to change things like habits, schedules, diets, the way money is spent, etc. Sometimes people think that making these changes actually changes them. But it doesn’t work that way.
Change that happens on the inside is from God. If you change internally (and become new), you will naturally change outwardly. You can make 2019 the best year of your life if you make it the best year of your life spiritually! Don’t start with the diet; start with God. Don’t start with the schedule; start with God. Let God do something brand new in your life. You’ll see transformation. If you don’t know Christ, you can do something different this New Year, or you can be someone different! Would you rather improve on the old you, the you that exists without Christ in your life? Or would you rather confess that you’re a sinner, that you need the gift of salvation He purchased on the cross for you?
Hebrews 10:22-23: “…let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. ”How do we draw near to God when we become new? We worship Him (John 4:23), read the Word of God (Joshua 1:8), serve Him faithfully (1 Peter 4:10), and spend time with people who will build you up and hold you accountable (James 5:16).
Start 2019 right by drawing near to God! Happy New Year!
